A battery that drains fast rarely needs a new phone. Nine times out of ten the cause is a background app, a weak signal or a worn battery. The diagnosis takes ten minutes and avoids an unnecessary purchase.
Start with battery health. On iPhone it is in Settings, Battery, Battery Health. Below 80%, replacement is justified. On Android the figure is sometimes hidden: use a diagnostic app or the system usage statistics.

Background apps
Open the battery statistics and look at the top consumers. A messaging app or a social network at the top is normal. An app you never use consuming 20% points to a problem.

Turn off background refresh for secondary apps. On Android, restrict battery use for greedy apps in settings. On iPhone, disable background app refresh in Settings, General.
Signal, an underestimated cause
A phone constantly searching for a weak signal consumes more than one with good coverage. In rural areas or inside a poorly insulated building, 5G can drain a battery twice as fast as 4G. Switch to 4G if 5G coverage is unstable.
Hotspot and GPS are the other two big consumers. A GPS left running in the background empties a battery within hours. Close navigation apps after use.
Screen and brightness
The screen remains the largest consumer. Lower brightness, enable dark mode and reduce the refresh rate if the phone allows it. A 120 Hz panel uses noticeably more than 60 Hz.
Also stop the screen from lighting up for every notification. On a phone receiving fifty messages a day, that adds an extra hour of screen time.

Capacity is not everything
A Galaxy A07 with 6,000 mAh lasts longer than an iPhone 13 with 3,240 mAh, but the comparison stops there. System efficiency, screen size and usage matter as much. A poorly tuned 5,000 mAh phone can last less than a well-configured 4,000 mAh one.
If the battery is healthy and draining continues, check system updates. A buggy build can cause abnormal consumption, fixed a few weeks later.
When to replace the battery
Replace it if health is below 80%, if the phone shuts down at 20% remaining, or if the case is swelling. A swollen battery is a hazard: stop using it and have it replaced.
Replacement usually costs under DZD 15,000 on a mid-ranger and gives the phone another year or two. On a DZD 55,000 iPhone 13, the operation remains worthwhile.

What a new battery costs
A battery replacement costs between DZD 6,000 and 15,000 in Algeria, depending on the model and the repairer. On an entry-level phone the lower end is enough; on a flagship, removing and resealing the screen pushes the bill up. Ask for an original or equivalent-quality cell, a written three-to-six-month warranty and a capacity test after fitting. A battery changed at 80% health gives two more years of use for the price of an accessory, far less than a new phone.
Verdict
Check battery health, stop background refresh, stabilise the signal and lower brightness. If health is below 80%, replace the battery rather than the phone. If draining persists after these settings, the cause is software or hardware, and a shop diagnosis is needed.
