Xiaomi launched the 18 Pro Max in China on September 23, 2026. Its spec sheet lists an 8,500 mAh battery, two 200 MP sensors and a 2.9-inch rear display. It is the densest flagship of the season, and it is not yet in our Algerian comparison tool. Until it arrives, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max at 169,000 DZD remains the local benchmark.
The useful question is not whether the 18 Pro Max looks impressive on paper. It does. The question is what it actually adds, what it will cost once imported, and whether the 17 Pro Max is still the better buy for most budgets.
The numbers that matter
| Item | Xiaomi 18 Pro Max |
|---|---|
| Display | 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED, 120 Hz, 4,000 nits |
| Rear display | 2.9-inch LTPO AMOLED, 120 Hz |
| Chip | Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, 2 nm |
| Memory | 12 to 16 GB RAM, 256 GB to 1 TB |
| Battery | 8,500 mAh, 100 W wired and 50 W wireless |
| Cameras | 200 MP + 200 MP 3.2x periscope + 50 MP ultra wide |
| Weight | 235 g |
| Software | Android 17 with HyperOS 4 |
Xiaomi also mentions a circular cooling system, three speakers and IP68 protection, with some listings adding IP69. Those details rarely decide a purchase. The battery, the cameras and the price do.
8,500 mAh is capacity, not endurance
An 8,500 mAh cell is 1,000 mAh more than the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max and roughly twice the battery in an iPhone 18 Pro. On paper, the 18 Pro Max starts with a clear lead.
Capacity is not the same as real battery life. A 6.9-inch 120 Hz screen, a flagship chip and a second rear display all draw power. Xiaomi has not published a standardised endurance test for Algeria, and we do not have a review unit. The larger cell buys a safety margin, not a promise of two days.
The 235 g weight shows the trade-off. That is heavy for any phone, even a large one. Wired charging stays at 100 W, provided you use a compatible charger. Wireless charging at 50 W needs a supported dock, which is often sold separately.

Two 200 MP sensors, and then what?
The camera system pairs a 200 MP main sensor with a 200 MP periscope offering 3.2x optical zoom, plus a 50 MP ultra wide. Xiaomi adds a 50 MP selfie camera and Leica branding.
That is the most generous hardware in the lineup. The 200 MP periscope should help between 3x and 10x, especially in good light. The 1/1.28-inch main sensor has more room to gather light than a smaller one.
Megapixels do not tell the whole story. Photosite size, processing and stabilisation matter more, and we have not seen photos produced by a final retail unit. The spec sheet justifies interest, not a verdict.

Those conversions come from Gizmochina, not from Algerian shops. A European retailer listing spotted on October 20 mentions €1,849 for the 512 GB model, without confirmation from Xiaomi. The global launch has not produced an official Algerian price.
In our October 31 survey, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max 512 GB sits at 169,000 DZD with eleven active offers. The 17 Ultra 512 GB is at 195,000 DZD, with only two offers. The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 256 GB starts at 88,900 DZD. The 18 Pro Max does not appear in the catalogue yet.

17 Pro Max or 18 Pro Max?
For value today, the 17 Pro Max at 169,000 DZD is hard to beat. It keeps a 6.9-inch screen, a 7,500 mAh battery and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. For most people, the gap with the new model will be small.
If battery life is your absolute priority, the 18 Pro Max deserves the wait. The 8,500 mAh cell, the two 200 MP sensors and the rear display are a real generational jump. You will pay an import premium, wait longer and accept the risks of a Chinese-market unit.
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max
12GB RAM · 512GB · 6.9 · AMOLED
The 17 Ultra at 195,000 DZD remains the camera choice. It costs 26,000 DZD more than the 17 Pro Max and is not for every budget. The Xiaomi range covers both. If you are weighing the two, the comparison tool shows the full gaps.
Checks before importing a Xiaomi
- The global version, not the Chinese one. Chinese units often arrive without Google services and with local apps.
- 4G and 5G bands that match Djezzy, Ooredoo and Mobilis.
- The exact model number, to confirm the region and the warranty.
- The charger in the box and its real wattage.
- An invoice and a written warranty, with its duration and the approved repairer.
An importer offering a price far below the market should explain why. Chinese firmware, an opened unit, no warranty or swapped accessories: there is always a reason.
